I'll start by telling you a little bit of my educational background. I have both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree from Florida State University. (Go Noles!) I am in my 24th year of teaching at Shadeville Elementary which is located in Wakulla County. Wakulla County is a small rural county just outside the state capital of Tallahassee. We may be a small county but we consistently have some of the best test scores in the state and we are highly regarded by the Department of Education. I interned at Shadeville in first grade and was lucky enough to be hired as a first grade teacher the next year. After about 9 years in first grade I was ready for a change. I moved into a Kindergarten/First Grade varying exceptionalities class where I taught out-of-field until I finished the coursework necessary to become certified in exceptional student education. I taught the K/1 combo for 5 years and then was moved into a 2/3 inclusion program where I served as the ESE teacher for another 5 years. By then I was missing having a class of my own and I asked to move back in to a first grade classroom. I am happy to be back in the full-time classroom setting and I work with an incredible bunch of ladies (including one that I taught in first grade many, many years ago)! I love my job and I love to share my experience and resources with others. I hope this blog allows me to share some of my knowledge with others who might be interested.
On a personal note, I have been married to my wonderful husband, Murray, since 2004. We were blessed in 2008 to have a wonderful son Jamie who keeps us on our toes!!
